Membership Information
We are accepting new members to join our team! Please follow the steps below to sign up:
1. Register with USMS
If you plan to swim with the Smelts, you must sign up with United States Masters Swimming (USMS).
Register or Renew your United States Masters Swimming (USMS) membership.
USMS provides our general liability insurance during practices. Every person who swims with the team needs to be a member of USMS or this liability insurance is voided. You must have a USMS member number to purchase a Smelts membership.

2. Buy a Smelts membership
First, you will need to fill out the Chicago Smelts Member Registration Form.
Then you can Purchase Your Membership via one of the options below: Annual (only available in December/January), Monthly, Social & Competition Only, or Drop In (single practice).
You may choose any membership option. Membership fees are non-refundable. When you register, you will be charged the fee immediately.
2025 Membership Fees
Smelts Membership includes pool access for all Smelts practices. If you wish to swim at a Chicago Park District pool during non-Smelts practices, you will need to purchase your own individual Lap Swim pass through Chicago Park District.
Annual Membership: $540
The annual membership is valid for one year, and is non-recurring.
The monthly membership is valid for the month it was purchased, is prorated for the first purchase, and renews automatically after on the 1st of every month.
This is a membership option for those that wish to compete or attend social gatherings with the Smelts, but do not plan on practicing with the team.
Annual Social/Competition Membership: $72
Monthly Social/Competition Membership: $6
Visitors with a current USMS membership (or international equivalent) can join us for a practice: $10 per practice
